1. Using Microsoft Word's Insert Symbol function
You may use Microsoft Word to insert the degree symbol if you have it installed on your computer. Microsoft Word has a feature called Symbol that allows you to put different characters into your text. To make advantage of this functionality, take these steps:
- After you've launched Microsoft Word, go to Insert, then Symbol.
- A little window will appear. Simply choose the degree icon and then press the Insert button.
- It will place a degree icon where your cursor is.
You may now copy and paste this symbol wherever you like.
2. Using Microsoft Word to Create Custom Keyboard Shortcuts
To do so, go to Microsoft Word and open the Symbol mini window, as described in 'How to use the Insert Symbol function in Microsoft Word.'
Then, when you've picked the symbol, click the Shortcut Key... button in the lower section of the window.
This will launch Customize Keyboard, a new mini-window.
To use the degree symbol in Microsoft Word, just press the Shortcut key combination on your keyboard.
When you're finished, click Assign, and then shut the tiny window.

3. Making use of the preset key combinations
Some Windows calculators offer a standard keyboard shortcut to insert a degree sign:
ALT + 0176
ALT + 248
Here you need to hold down the ALT key and then press and hold the above keys on the number pad of your keyboard only on the right side.
Another requirement is that Num Lock must be enabled.
